Story of the puff pasty…. Hum….
There are many claim in the world of who’s really invented puff pastry man… From the East to the Middle Eastern to Europe, they all claim they are the one that invent the puff pastry or perfect it. Its the whole he said, she said in the early history.
the French said:
the French, always has some stories to tell, and this time it was dated back to the 1600s. Claude Lorrain ( Claude Gelle at birth – 1600 – 1682), has made the 1st “Frenchy” version of the puff pastry for his ill father, who has to be on the diet with flour, water and butter ( common, sick people eat some more fat? how about some nutrition for a change).

![]() Claude Lorrain pix, this one looks more like a Baker |
Lorrain, the bakery apprentice, prepared the dough, pack the butter into it, and start kneading and folding the dough for about 10 times, before turn it into a loaf. As his father meal has come up and Lorrain didn’t have any bread dough ready, he desperatedly baked this new loaf that he is experimenting. ( i guess tat is not a really smart move, but oh well)
As the baking process progressed, Lorrain is surprised on how the loaf came out. It attained its unsual large size, and butter still retained in the loaf. He later became a famous Baroque painting.
Voilà! the pâte feuilletée was born.
Interest to know more about other country and how they kinda claim it? Will do so in the next blog
